Bird Log July 27th 2008

I took a few photos around Newcastle Beach and Baths while I was photographing the surf today. There were a few common terns flying around, as well as some gannets. There was a White-faced Heron in Newcastle Baths which had been emptied. He was just walking around picking at the sand and little pools that were there. A pelican plonked down beside me at the rocks at Newcastle Beach thinking I was a fisherman and he just stood there looking at me hoping for some fish or waiting to steal some bait. And I think I saw a Black Kite just near the baths at Merewether Beach. The weather was variable with sunny patches with cloud coming in. The wind swung around from the north west to the south west at about ten knots or so, and the temperature was about 13 degrees Celsius. So a species list might go as follows:

Australian Pelican

Camera settings were : 1/500 second, f/5.6, ISO200 with a 400 mm lens. The camera was a Canon 40D.
