La Hoya, Argentina

Saturday 31st July 2010

Esquel, Argentina. This morning La Hoya Ski Resort was socked in. A low cloud had come rolling in and you could not see anything. So I decided to go into Esquel to do my internet. You cannot get internet up here in the mountain. I walked down the car park and took this photo of the trees while I was hitch hiking.

This nice lady picked me up and I had a bit of a chat to her in my excrutiating Spanish. She was very patient with me. I got down the mountain and did all my internet emailing and blogging. Then I did some shopping and walked back to the road to hitch hike back up the mountain. By this time the weather had fined up and the sun had come out and it was a beautiful day. I probably missed out on a great sunny days skiing but oh well I needed a bit of a holiday from my holiday anyway.

Sunday 1st August

I went skiing early this morning – before 10 am. But I need not have bothered. It was a bit icy and the pistes were covered in ice blocks, so it was not so enjoyable. I ended up going off piste and skiing some crud and handled it pretty well. I am happy that I can ski the rubbish so that when we get some decent powder I might be able to ski it enjoyably.

Monday, 2nd August

I started off later today. It was -12 degrees Celsius up the top of the mountain. No wonder I was freezing. The snow was a bit icy and there were chunky bits all over the groomed slopes. So it was not really a warm-up as a dodging of the ice blocks. I headed to the off-piste but even that was a bit icy in patches and even the crud was a bit too icy. My knees were giving me heaps so I stopped early. I am very tired.
