Arugam Bay Tourist photos

Well here are some photos out of my phone. I just tried to look at what date each photo was taken but they only have the date of when they were uploaded from my phone. Yesterday, doh!

Whiskey Point
Whiskey Point

Whiskey Point is about 15 kilometers from Arugam Bay by road, a lot less if you come along the beach around the back.

Main Point

The main surfing break at Arugam Bay. Not very big this day.

Ghost

A scary guy with blonde hair. Just my nickname for him.

Anton with his board

This Ukranian guy made a surfboard. Not bad considering he has never done it before.

Pussies on the Bike

We have about six cats around the place.

Sending the stingrays to market
Sending the stingrays to market

A lot of stingrays are caught around here. They get chucked in the truck and sent off to market in Kandy or Colombo.

Full moon at Baby Point.

Oriental Garden Lizard
Oriental Garden Lizard (Calotes versicolor)

There are a few of these lizards in the back yard.

Fish and Ice transport

The bullock cart is the best transport off and onto the beach. Everything else gets bogged, even the tractors.

I had covid

My Coronavirus Story

This is going to be hard to write. I was not sure if I was going to tell everyone that I got covid, but I should let everyone know what happened and that I am ok now. It started off on September 3rd, when I got sick with the symptoms – high temperature, headache, and nausea. I was sure that I had it. It was like a really bad case of hangover. After about 2 or 3 days of that, I started to feel a bit better. I was isolating myself in my guesthouse. I am the only one there and I just stayed away from people.

But after about a week, I started to feel like it was getting difficult to breathe. I had a dizzy spell that morning, so I decided I should go to the hospital in case my lungs got into trouble. So, off to Pottuvil hospital I went. They gave me a rapid antigen test, and it came back positive. They said they would admit me because I was over 65 years of age. I thought, thats good, I will feel safer in hospital if my breathing gets bad.

So, they chucked me in the covid ward, which is sealed off with glass and plastic. There were four other people already in there. They put me on oxygen and tested my oxygen levels and blood pressure. My oxygen levels were ok. I think I was just freaking out about my lungs going kaput but they were fine. I had an xray and the doc said my lungs were good. Whew, that was a relief.

My bed for ten days

I spent ten days in the hospital. I got treated very well. They fed me really good healthy food. It would have been a great relaxing holiday if not for the boredom. I got discharged and went back to my guesthouse. I feel good, but get tired easily. So I am just going to rest heaps, have lots of healthy food and get stronger.

Thank you to all the nurses, orderlies and doctors who did a great job of looking after me.
