Ban Na Village, Laos

Phu Khao Khuay NPA.

It has been a long day and I am starting to feel the effects of it. I have been yawning my head off the last few minutes. I hope I do not fall asleep before I finish this post. I started off from Vang Vieng with the local bus to Vientiane. It took more than four hours to go about 150 kilometers.

Once I got to Vientiane I had to fend off the hungry tuk-tuk drivers and find the bus to the Southern Bus Station. Then I jumped onto a songthaew to Ban Na. Well, to the turnoff on the highway. I had to walk a couple of kilometers into the village.

I got to the village and sorted out my homestay with the Lao family, then went for a walk with one of the villagers, who was going to work on his plot of land. He is going to be my guide tomorrow on my trek into the national park.

Universal tractor
Timber cutters

They have these amazing universal tractors which can lug stuff around and plough fields as well. There were a few of them coming back with sawn timber from the forest.

eight wings
Two Dragonflies

These four-winged dragonflies are often stuck together like dogs. I have no idea what is going on.

I took heaps of photos of this amazing black bumble bee. It was huge. And it had these iridescent wings. Awesome.

Slash and burn
Land cleared from the forest

It seems like they almost practice slash and burn agriculture. This field has been hacked from the forest and planted with something.

These four-winged red dragonflies are awesome. There were heaps of them around. I think I have seen them somewhere before.
