Hi Steve,
I’m a keen amateur photographer who is starting to get more into taking photos in wetlands and tidal estuary locations. I use Nikon DX (D80 and D200)cameras and a range of Nikon and Sigma lenses. I’ve been following your blog for a few months now after finding it while searching for info on Stockton Sandspit. Its an area I try to get to as often as I can (but the drive from Sydney is a big drawback, so I try to fit my visits in with other travel heading north or on the way back from other places firther up the coast). I also try to get to the wetlands at Kooragang/Ash Island when ever I am in that area.
I’m particularly impressed with your bird and surfing photos.
Your photos are very clear and in sharp focus. I’m wondering what sort of gear you use, particularly what lenses you use for areas like Stockton Sandspit etc.
I notice you seem to be on your morning or afternoon walks when you have taken a lot of these photos, so I am wondering what you use as your “walkaround lens/s”. I can see something like a 70-200mm f 2.8 would be a great lens to ensure speed and sharpness, but wonder about all that weight being lugged around in a fairly hostile environment with mud and water and sand etc all over the place most of the time.
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
