Pelabuhan Paotere

I got up early in the morning for a change. I have not known what time the sun comes up in Makassar because I have been sleeping in. I ordered a gojek from my phone to go the the old schooner harbour. I got there, paid 10,000 rupiah to get in and pottered around a bit and had breakfast at a warung – Kopi-o and nasi campur.

The old style traditional Bugis Schooner that have been sailing to Australia and elsewhere for hundreds of years. Maybe more. Now they have motors. KLM stands for Kapal Layer Mesin (Ship Sail Motor).

I met some fishermen unloading some nice fish. They looked a bit like spanish mackerel. I heard they might have been going to Japan.

After the winch had dropped off the load, a couple of guys would lift one up to a guy’s back and then he would walk the plank up on to the truck.
