Cherating 2020

Filed under: Birds — admin @ 9:05 am

Cherating, Pahang

I got the boat out of Kapas Island and caught the fancy bus to Cherating. I arrived pretty late, after 4pm. So I settled in, then went for a walk to the beach and along the road. I managed to spot a few birds. In the morning I took a river cruise through the mangroves of the Cherating River. I was expecting nothing, but got pleasantly surprised with some nice birds, otters, and a couple of snakes.

Mangrove Snake
Mangrove Snake (Boiga dendrophila)

“Boiga dendrophila, commonly called the mangrove snake or the gold-ringed cat snake, is a species of rear-fanged snake in the family Colubridae. The species is endemic to southeast Asia. It is one of the biggest cat snake species, averaging 6–8 feet (1.8–2.4 m) in length. It is considered mildy venomous. Although moderate envenomations resulting in intense swelling have been reported, there has never been a confirmed fatality” (wikipedia). Again, thanks to Nathan Rusli for the ID help.
