Condingup and Alexander Bay

East of Esperance

It has been so long since my last post that I forget what I have done. My first stop was at Condingup, about 60 kilometers west of Esperance. I camped near there for the night with wild blustery winds. In the morning it was much nicer so I went for a walk around the bush near the camp ground. I did manage to see a few good birds and eventually found a huge mob of Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo. The noise was incredible. There would have been about fifty of them in a mob.

On the way out of town, I spotted a Red-capped Parrot on the electric wires. A juvenile.

I went to Wharton Beach next and did some tourist things and even went for a swim and washed all the dead bugs off my car bonnet. Next stop was Alexander Bay. I was not expecting much but it ended up being really good.

Gilbert's Honeyeater

Gilbert’s Honeyeater (Melithreptus chlorospis)

There were a few Gilbert’s Honeyeaters hanging around with the New Holland Honeyeater in the flowering gum trees. I just looked up into a tree and there they were.

Hooded Plover

Hooded Plover (Thinornis cucullatus tregallasi)

Finally I have seen a Hooded Plover. I have been looking for one for months. There was only one adult but that is enough. woohoo! And it is the western sub-species tregallasi.
