Muller’s Lagoon

Bowen Birding

Muller’s Lagoon is right in the center of Bowen, right next to the Woolworth’s shopping center. For a newcomer to Australia it would probably be a great place to see a lot of Australian water-birds. I did not seen anything except maybe a Radjah Shelduck but I cannot remember if I have seen one of these or not.

A pair of Hardhead. Also called White-eyed Duck for obvious reasons.

I was quite surprised to see lots of Plumed Whistling-ducks.

I have not seen one of these for a while.

Red-kneed Dotterel
Red-kneed Dotterel (Erythrogonys cinctus)

And a shot of the Nutmeg Mannikin with some decent light.

  1. Hi & thanks Steve if you’re still active:) I now live across the road from Muller’s Lagoon & have the opportunity to circumnavigate daily for exercise & bird spotting. I will have the NikonP900 camera soon [on order since seeing the birdlife here] & hope to show more examples of the wonderful array of feathered friends. Many of them visit my yard as I have several native bushes that produce seeds they eat. The eagle families rule the roost around here [wedge-tails & Sea-eagles] & frequently take birds in flight even in my short time here. I have what appear to be a small bower-bird type visiting the yard regularly for a particular seed & hope to get a decent shot to name them soon.

    Thanks again,
wishing health & happiness to you & yours,

John M Wenitong (aka Pemulwuy Weeatunga – author of ancAu [aboriginal/indigenous] fiction).
