Lipson Twitcher’s Trail and Tumby Bay

I camped last night at spot number 2 on the Twitcher’s Trail between Lipson and Ungarra. In the morning the wind was howling so I had a dingo’s breakfast and then headed for Ungarra where I had my real breakfast – coffee and muesli – and headed back down the trail. Not much happening but at least I got a photo of the Port Lincoln Parrot.

Port Lincoln Parrot

Port Lincoln Parrot (Barnardius zonarius zonarius)

This is the zonarius sub-species of Australian Ringneck. Only one more to go – the 28. First time I have come across this one.

Rock Parrot

Rock Parrot (Neophem petrophila)

I think this must be a female or a young one because she is so dull and the blue forehead band is so indistinct. And you can see the raindrops because it had just started to bucket down and I had to make a run for it.

Black-faced Cormorant

Black-faced Cormorant (Phalacrocorax fuscescens)

The Black-faced Cormorant is very similar to the Pied Cormorant except that the black on the face goes right down to the bill at the front.

Red-necked Stint

Sharp-tailed Sandpiper

A bit of ballet practice going on. There were a few waders on the mud flats at the entrance to the creek. Edit: I made a mistake on this one. Thanks Pete for the correction.

Horsfield's Bronze-cuckoo

Horsfield’s Bronze-cuckoo (Chalcites basalis)

White-faced Heron

White-faced Heron

I saw this White-faced Heron on the boardwalk and it waited until the last minute before he launched off into the mangroves.
